2023 Pan American Youth and Veteran Championships Selection Criteria
Selection Criteria:
• Youth A: Born in 2014 and 2015 (must 8 or 9 years of age by December 31, 2023)
o Points used for selection
§ All registered, age eligible fencers on Y10 National Rolling Points
§ Remaining fencers will be ranked according to classification
§ If ties remain, fencers will be chosen by drawing lots.
• Youth B: Born in 2012 and 2013 (must be 10 or 11 years of age by December 31, 2023)
o Points used for selection
§ All registered, age eligible fencers on Y12 National Rolling Points
§ All registered, age eligible fencers on Y10 National Rolling Points
§ Remaining fencers will be ranked according to classification
§ If ties remain, fencers will be chosen by drawing lots.
• Pre-Cadet: Born in 2010 and 2011 (must be 12 or 13 years of age by December 31, 2023)
o Points used for selection
§ All registered, age eligible fencers on Y14 National Rolling Points
§ All registered, age eligible on Y12 National Rolling Points
§ Remaining fencers will be ranked according to classification
§ If ties remain, fencers will be chosen by drawing lots.
• Pre-Veteran: Born between 1974 and 1983 (must be between 40 and 49 years of age by
December 31, 2023)
o Points used for selection
§ All registered, age eligible fencers on the V40 National Rolling Points
§ Remaining fencers will be ranked according to classification
§ If ties remain, fencers will be chosen by drawing lots.
• Veteran 1: Born between 1964 and 1973 (must be between 50 and 59 years of age by
December 31, 2023)
o Points used for selection
§ All registered, age eligible fencers on the V50 National Rolling Points
§ Remaining fencers will be ranked according to classification
§ If ties remain, fencers will be chosen by drawing lots.

§ Veteran 2: Born in 1963 or before (must be at least 60 years old by December 31, 2023)
o Athletes will be selected based on point standings as of the regular entry deadline
(July 18) in the following order for Veteran 2:
1. Top 4 athletes on the V60 National Rolling Points Standings
2. Top 2 athletes on the V70 National Rolling Points Standings
3. Remaining athletes in the top eight (8) of the V60 National Rolling Point
Standings
4. Remaining athletes in the top eight (8) of the V70 National Rolling Point
Standings
5. Athletes not in the top eight (8) of the V60 or V70 National Rolling Point
Standings will be ranked according to USA Fencing classification and by
age/points (ex: V60 As by placement in V60 National Rolling Point
Standings, V70 As by placement in V70 National Rolling Point Standings,
V60 Bs by placement in V60 National Rolling Point Standings, V70 Bs by
placement in V70 National Rolling Point Standings, etc.)
6. If ties remain, fencers will be chosen by drawing lots.
For all age/weapon categories excluding Veteran 2:
Any opportunities to fence up/down in age categories will be decided at the competition, onsite,
at the discretion of the Organizing Committee. USA Fencing cannot register fencers for
categories other than which they are age eligible.
