The Austin Challenge is sponsored by Blue Gauntlet Fencing, our exclusive equipment provider.
All COVID restrictions are subject to change based on guidance from USA Fencing and local authorities.
Fencers may have two spectators (parents or siblings) plus their coach in the venue. Access will be managed by wristbands. All persons inside the venue must wear a COVID mask at all times; fencers are required to wear a COVID mask underneath their fencing mask. If you cannot comply do not register for this tournament. These protocols and tournament requirements due to COVID-19 may change at anytime. You will be notified through your USA Fencing membership portal if there are additional requirements.
Self-monitor and be symptom-free for at least 14 days prior to tournament. Stay home if you have had close sustained contact in last 14 days with anyone who was sick or known or believed to have COVID-19. Stay home if you are sick or do not feel well.
Everyone in the venue must wear a surgical or cloth mask covering nose and mouth at all times when in the venue; no gators or bandana style masks are allowed. The only exception is when eating or drinking, or when socially distanced from any other person by a minimum 6 foot diameter to catch your breath. There is no exception to this requirement. We cannot accommodate those with conditions that would preclude wearing a mask, so anyone unable to wear a mask should stay home. Any person refusing to wear a mask will be subject to penalty under offenses for Disturbing Order On Strip, or Disturbing Order Off Strip, as appropriate.
Everyone must practice social distancing. Refrain from contacting other participants and attendees (handshakes, body contact, etc.). Referees will not have fencers sign, but will give the fencers an opportunity to verify their score(s).
There will be a referee clinic offered as part of this event - please check back for details. Referee clinic will NOT be held at this event.
The venue will be open for equipment inspection Friday 7:30-9 PM

Rush hour travel: If you are traveling to or from the airport during rush hour, or if you have a tight timeline for making your flight home, consider taking State Highway 130 as an alternative to I-35. Highway 130 is a toll road and is a longer route (in miles) between the airport and the venue, but traffic levels are considerably lighter than on I-35. At rush hour the I-35 route can increase your drive time by 30 minutes or more over the 130 option. Check with your car rental agency before deciding on your route, to see if they impose any surcharges for toll road travel, which is charged electronically to the vehicle (i.e., no need to stop to pay at a toll booth, just drive on through). The 1-35 route is fine during non-rush-hour travel.
