This event is open to all regions but only provides Region 6 regional points for Y10, Y12 ,Y14, Cadet, and Junior events for Foil, Epee, and Saber. States that are eligible to compete in this competition are WV, DE, MD, VA, DC, TN, NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, and FL.

Please Note: This RJCC is the first event of the new cadet and junior season, so eligibility changes. For reference, the current age eligibility following Junior Olympics is: Juniors - Birth years 2003-2009 and Cadets - Birth years 2006-2009.
Protocols will be implemented during the entire tournament; no exceptions. DO NOT REGISTER IF YOU ARE UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO COMPLY. If the tournament is cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns or by the order of USA Fencing, a full refund will be issued to all fencers, except for admin fees.
This tournament is subject to federal mandates, state laws and local orders regarding COVID-19, including the assembly of persons.
All competitors and spectators/coaches are required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test prior to entering the venue. The negative COVID test must be obtained within 72 hours prior to start of event. Individuals who have completed a COVID vaccine series (Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, Novavak, Sinovac, Sinopharm, Covaxin, or CoronaVac) 14 days prior to arrival at the venue will NOT need to obtain a negative PCR or antigen test result. We will accept all PCR or antigen test results as long as it is proctored with verification via email. All competitors and spectators/coaches who do not meet either of these requirements will NOT be allowed into the venue. We will be checking for them prior to the entrance.
All individuals will have their temperature checked prior to entering the venue. Anyone with a temperature above 100.4ºF will not be permitted to enter.
Every individual who enters the venue is required to wear an appropriate face covering at all times while inside the venue. Face coverings must completely cover the mouth and nose to properly prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air after leaving the wearer's orifices. Bandanas, single layer gaiters, masks with valves, and fencing mask inserts that do not make direct contact with the athlete's face are not permitted.
All events are capped, and entry is on a first-come first-served basis. Once the tournament has filled to the capped amount, a wait list will begin. When an athlete withdraws from the event the next person on the wait list will then have 48 hours to officially register for the event and pay event fees.
Hand sanitizers will be placed throughout the venue: check-in, strips, etc.
Fencers are advised to wash their uniforms each day as to arrive with a clean uniform.
Armorers have the right to decline to check equipment that is deemed unsanitary (this includes equipment that is visibly soiled, and/or gives off a foul odor).
Fencers must wear appropriate attire that their fencing uniform can be put on over in public areas. Changing completely in the venue, including restrooms is not permitted.
Fencers are not allowed to touch the scoring machine, weights, ships, remote or scoresheets.
Fencers must refrain from shaking hands after bouts or making any intentional physical contact.
Once a fencer is eliminated from their event, they must pack their equipment up and leave the venue immediately, unless they are in the top 8. Individuals may not stay and socialize, watch remaining bouts or to observe the medal ceremony.

USA Fencing Regional Events follow the SafeSport and Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies, as approved by the U.S. Center for SafeSport. Please carefully read through these policies prior to your attendance at the event.
Additionally, USA Fencing Regional events follow the codes of conduct set by USA Fencing. Please carefully read the codes of conduct for spectators, coaches and members as you will be expected to abide by these codes of conduct.

All individuals who are entering the venue will need to show their vaccination card or negative test result each day. Once an individual does that, and has their temperature checked (must be 100.4ºF or lower), they will be issued a colored wrist band. It will be a different color for each day of the event. This will allow spectators and fencers to leave the competition area of the venue, and easily return without waiting on a line, and clearly identify that the individual has completed the appropriate check-in procedure. Wrist bands must be worn be everyone in the venue, and must remain visible at all times. Security will check for wristband prior to entry into venue.
Early equipment check is available on Friday, March 11th from 6pm - 8pm. We are only checking masks, gloves, and lames. We highly recommend you take advantage of this to avoid lines before the start of your event.
We will have equipment, provided by Absolute, for sale at the venue.

All events will be separated by gender to comply with USA Fencing qualification paths. RJCCs must have at least 2 competitors and cannot be fenced with mixed gender.
You MUST have proof of age (copy of birth certificate or passport) and proof of current USA Fencing competitive or International Competitive License to compete (if your USA Fencing membership card is age verified; proof of birth date is not required). Fencers are NOT permitted to fence in more than one event at the same time. Bring all required gear including appropriate length socks! We will not have an equipment vendor at the tournament. Y10 events require #2 blades

Proper attire required. You MUST wear a plastron. All female or male foil fencers wearing a chest protector are required to wear the new required chest protector by USA Fencing. No sweatpants will be permitted. Standard fencing uniforms cannot have any rips tears or holes. Socks must conform USA Fencing Association rules.
Times listed are the close of registration time. Doors will open at 7:00 A.M. Armory Check and Registration will open at 7:00 A.M. Fencing should begin approximately 15-20 minutes after the close of registration for each event.
Tournament Format: Tournament format will be pools to five points, used to establish seeding to the direct elimination (DE). DE bouts will be conducted as they are at a national event: for Y10 -10 point bouts (two 3 minute periods with a 1.5 minute rest between periods) and for Y12 and Y14, and Cadet and Junior events - the DE bouts are 15 touches (three 3-minute periods, with a 1.5 minute rest between periods).
Withdrawal/Refund Deadline: All refund requests must be received in writing by 11:59:59pm CST on Sunday, March 6th, 2022. Please email info@fencingclub.org for your refund request. Registration and administrative fees will not be refunded, but event entry fees will be. Please include fencers name, membership number, and all events in which they are withdrawing from.
Important Reminders: We will NOT accept entries at the door. All registrations must be completed via USA Fencing platform.

Hotel: There are a number of hotels in downtown Birmingham close to the venue. If you're looking for other options, Irondale (<10 minutes), Homewood and Mountain Brook (10-15 minutes) are good areas as well.
The BJCC is next to Uptown. Food choices include Texas de Brazil, Mugshots, Eugene's Hot Chicken, Subway, and many more! There is also Top Golf a block away and a football stadium.
Parking: There are several garages and decks at the venue. The one for East Hall 2, our venue, is P4 at the corner of 22nd St. and 11th Ave. North. Parking is $20 per day.
Nearest Airport: Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. The airport is 5 miles, 9 minutes from the venue.
