This event provides Region 6 regional points for Y10, Y12 ,Y14, Cadet, and Junior events for Foil, Epee, and Saber. States that are eligible to compete in this competition are WV, DE, MD, VA, DC, TN, NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, and FL.
The venue is located on the second floor of the hotel. There are escalators in the lobby area. Take the escalators up and the venue is right there. This is the only allowed entrance and exit to the venue.
Protocols will be implemented during the entire tournament; no exceptions. DO NOT REGISTER IF YOU ARE UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO COMPLY. If the tournament is cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns or by the order of USA Fencing, a full refund will be issued to all fencers, except for admin fees.
The Alabama Department of Public Health states "for indoor sports, to help facilitate social distancing, and to reduce the potential exposure to COVID-19 by large numbers of people, the total number of spectators be limited to less than 20% of usual occupancy." To meet this requirement, we are limiting our spectators to only Youth 10 and Youth 12 events and coaches. Youth 10 and Youth 12 fencers may be accompanied by ONE individual (a parent/guardian). No additional family members or spectators will be permitted. Each club will be allowed to sign up a max of 2 coaches. A link for coaches to sign up will be provided.
All individuals will have their temperature checked prior to entering the venue. Anyone with a temperature above 100.4ºF will not be permitted to enter.
Every individual who enters the venue is required to wear an appropriate face covering at all times while inside the venue, and in all indoor public areas of the hotel. Face coverings must completely cover the mouth and nose to properly prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air after leaving the wearer's orifices. Bandanas, single layer gaiters, masks with valves, and fencing mask inserts that do not make direct contact with the athlete's face are not permitted.
Hand sanitizers will be placed throughout the venue: check-in, strips, etc.
Fencers are advised to wash their uniforms each day as to arrive with a clean uniform.
Armorers have the right to decline to check equipment that is deemed unsanitary (this includes equipment that is visibly soiled, and/or gives off a foul odor).
No personal chairs or alternative seating options are allowed in the venue.
Fencers must wear appropriate attire that their fencing uniform can be put on over in public areas. Changing completely in the venue, including restrooms is not permitted.
All events will be capped, and entry is on a first-come first-served basis - NO EXCEPTIONS. Once events have reached capacity, a waitlist will begin prioritized in order of registrations. If an athlete withdraws from an event that is filled, the next person on the waitlist will then have the opportunity to attend.
Fencers are not allowed to touch the scoring machine, weights, ships, remote or scoresheets.
Fencers must refrain from shaking hands after bouts or making any intentional physical contact.
Fencers must refrain from shouting or screaming, including after scoring a touch. Referees will warn fencers, but subsequent violations can result in penalties.
Once a fencer is eliminated from their event, they must pack their equipment up and leave the venue immediately, unless they are in the top 8. Individuals may not stay and socialize, watch remaining bouts or to observe the medal ceremony.
Live tournament results and tournament progress will be posted on TBD
Additional protocols will be created to help us run a smooth and safe tournament. We will keep this webpage updated.
All individuals who are entering the venue will complete a contact card each day that will include their name, contact info, arrival time, and temperature. This allows us to record everyone who accesses the venue. Once an individual submits their contact card, and has their temperature recorded (must be 100.4ºF or lower), they will be issued a colored wrist band. There will be a different color for each day of the event. This will allow spectators and fencers to leave the competition area of the venue, and easily return without waiting on a line, and clearly identify that the individual has completed the appropriate check-in procedure. Wrist bands must be worn be everyone in the venue, and must remain visible at all times.
Each Youth 10 and Youth 12 fencer will be issued ONE lanyard with a guest pass. This pass can be given to the fencer's parent or other designated +1. Registered coaches will receive their own lanyard and pass. Any individual in the venue who is not fencing must wear this lanyard and guest pass, and it must be visible at all times. Anyone found inside the venue without these credentials will be removed from the venue, and not allowed to return. We will only issue ONE pass per fencer and coach, and lost passes will not be replaced. The pass can be traded-off from one parent to another, but only for a fencer who is currently fencing. Once a fencer is eliminated (except for those in the top 8), that fencer and their +1 must immediately leave the venue. That guest pass can only be used to enter the venue while the assigned fencer is competing.
Early equipment check is available on Friday, April 2nd from 6pm - 8pm. We will only be checking masks and gloves. We highly recommend you take advantage of this to avoid lines before the start of your event.
