2022 South Coast Mary Rafanelli RYC/RJC (Region 4)

Welcome to the 2022 South Coast Mary Rafanelli Region 4 Regional Youth Circuit/Region Junior Circuit (RYC/RJC) competition. This is a USA Fencing Region 4 event open to any fencer, regardless of home region. For those looking for more information on regional points and qualification paths, please refer to the USA Fencing Athlete's Handbook.

The tournament will be run in accordance with current USA Fencing Covid safety protocols for the December NAC. Please note that as of 12/3/2021, the tournament has updated the Covid protocols to align with recent changes from USA Fencing. This is a change from the original tournament posting; if you feel you are unable to comply with the USA Fencing Covid mandates, you will need to contact event organizers through the USA Fencing portal to cancel your registration and USA Fencing will issue a full refund.

Per USA Fencing's December NAC Health & Safety Protocols:

Mask Mandate

As announced in October 2020, all participants in USA Fencing sanctioned events, including coaches, athletes, spectators and staff, MUST wear a facemask that covers mouth and nose at all times, including competition.

Proof of Vaccination

Individuals who have completed a COVID vaccine series (Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca only) 14 days prior to arrival at the venue will NOT need to obtain a negative PCR test result, but they must provide proof of vaccination daily upon entrance into the venue. Proof of vaccination must be presented to the USA Fencing staff members at registration for verification.

COVID-19 Testing

All participants in the tournament who have not completed one of the COVID-19 vaccine series listed above at least 14 days prior to the start of the tournament must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test result in order to enter the facility. This includes athletes and staff as well as all coaches and spectators. The COVID-19 PCR test must be taken no more than 72 hours prior to the start of travel and must be shown daily to enter the venue. Proof of your negative COVID-19 test result must be presented to the USA Fencing staff members at registration for verification.

Social Distancing

Everyone should practice proper social distancing measures at all times while in the venue.

Handshakes

Athletes are to salute at the conclusion of a bout in lieu of shaking hands with each other, the referee or coaches.

Awards

Athletes who finish in the top eight will be receive a medal for individual events. Awards ceremonies will not be held. Athletes who win a medal can pick up their medals at the awards area near finals. Group photos in front of the backdrop will be permitted. Athletes and coaches should practice social distancing whenever possible and must wear masks.

Bout Committee

No more than one fencer will be permitted at the table at which each Bout Committee official is stationed. All other fencers for that event should wait behind the line until called by the officials’ member to come forward. Athletes should ensure six feet between themselves and any others waiting in line.

If you are unable to comply with any Covid safety protocols, do not register for the event. Anyone (participant, coach or spectator) not complying with protocols will be referred to the convention center security staff immediately.

  • Seeding, pool/DE assignments and results will be posted online through www.fencingtimelive. No physical posting will occur on the premises

VENUE

As in previous seasons, this event will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center but this year it will be moving to their Main Ballroom for additional space. The Main Ballroom offers 25,000 square feet of carpeted and air conditioned space as well as an 8,000 square foot central foyer for registration, equipment control and food concessions.

USA Fencing Age Eligibility

The Venue will open at 6:30am daily. Fencers must check in for their events before the time posted for their event at the registration table. Fencers should be sure to bring their USA Fencing membership card (or a image copied on their phone) as check-in will be done using a bar code scan of their card to automatically confirm them for their event. Fencers must check in the day of their event; if they fenced in an event on a previous day they must check in again for their next event.

Fencers must have a current USA Fencing Competitive membership (or equivalent) and birth years must be verified by USA Fencing - please be sure to confirm both prior to attending the tournament.

FOOD SERVICES

There will be concessions in the main foyer and there are a number of restaurants within a short walking distance.

EQUIPMENT SERVICES

The Fencing Post will be on site as the designated equipment vendor. They will be selling equipment as well as offering repair services. If you have any questions about equipment availability or services, please contact them directly prior to the tournament.

EQUIPMENT CHECK

Prior to arriving on strip, the following equipment must be verified by a member of the armory staff. Please be sure to have the following equipment certified by the armorers prior to the start of the event. Allow for plenty of time (at least 60 minutes prior to the time posted for the event) to check in and certify equipment. As there is often a line immediately prior to the start of larger events it is recommended that you check your equipment during quieter times whenever possible. Equipment that is certified is good for the duration of the tournament and does not need to be re-certified for multiple events at the same competition.

  • Masks
  • Gloves
  • Lames
  • Cords

The armory staff will be available for equipment check on Friday evening between 4 and 6pm.

Event Fee Info

The regular fee deadline is Saturday, January 1. After January 1, late fees will be in effect until Wednesday, January 12. After January 12, no additional registrations will be accepted. We ask that fencers register for their events as soon as possible; the sooner we have solid numbers for each event the better we can plan for strip assignments, staffing and any potential adjustments to start times. This results in a smoother event for everyone, including (and most importantly) the fencers.

Refund policy

Registration and Administration fees are non-refundable at any time. Event fees are refundable until January 1, 2022, and must be requested in writing via email to info@southcoastfencing.com.

After January 1, 2022, no refunds will be processed for any reason.

Larger tournaments required advance (and non-refundable) payments from the event organizers for venue, staffing, food, parking, etc. Refunds will be processed by USA Fencing.
